Nano is a free, open source Mac app built by valenxi. This page covers the app and the site at trynano.app.
Nano has no account, no analytics and no ads. The source is public at https://github.com/valenxi0/Nano, so you can check everything on this page against the code.
What stays on your Mac
- Settings and dashboard layout
- Agent activity, session lists and usage estimates
- Cues (Nano's to-do lists), with their prompts and screenshots
- Files you hold in the tray (Nano keeps references, not copies)
- Dictation audio and text from Quill and Sketch
- Speech models you choose to download
None of this is uploaded to a Nano server. There is no Nano server.
What leaves your Mac
| Activity | Where it goes | What's sent |
|---|---|---|
| Agent usage limits | Each agent's provider | A request made with the sign-in that agent already has. Nano never copies your credentials. |
| Weather | Apple WeatherKit | Only the location you saved |
| Update check | GitHub | A request for the latest release, once a day. Nothing about you. You can turn it off in Settings › Privacy & About. |
| Speech models | The model's host | A download, only when you pick a model |
| Cue sync | Reminders, Todoist or the app you connect | The cues you choose to sync, only if you turn sync on |
Your coding agents keep talking to their providers the way they always do. Nano is not a proxy in between.
Permissions
Nano asks for a permission only when you turn on something that needs it. The full list, with what each one is for, is in the README on GitHub.
This website
The site has no trackers and no analytics. Our host may keep basic server logs, such as IP address, browser and page, for security and uptime.
The star count on the site comes from the GitHub API. Your browser asks GitHub directly, so GitHub sees that request like any other visit.
Downloads are served by GitHub Releases, under GitHub's own privacy policy.
If you write to support@trynano.app, we keep the thread as long as it takes to help you.
Children
Nano is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect anything from them.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes too. The current version always lives on this page.
License
Nano is released under the MIT license.
